ARMA Support And Patching Plans
Page 2
ARMA 2 was announced, and yes, we are working hard on it - now what does that mean for ARMA? Will we still continue to support it?

The answer is: yes, we will still keep supporting ARMA.

Patch Plans

We're preparing a patch for ARMA, which will hopefully be released in one or two months. Currently we plan to include the following fixes or improvements:

  • Some AI detection fixes
  • Fixed fog on DX 10 cards
  • Fixed anti-cheat signature timeout
  • Added some additional anti-cheat measures
  • More reliable VON
  • Fixed CTD when resuming from a save in large and/or script intensive missions
  • Fixed spontaneous death while driving a motorcycle in MP
  • Fixed AI soldier can't fire behind the sandbags
  • Fixed compatibility problems caused by various copy protections uses

The patch will be completely independent of Queens Gambit, which will be running on 1.08, and no release data for this patch is currently set, but we intend to first release it as public beta 1.09 before the final release will be made available.

Linux Server

Linux Server has been in the works for quite a long time now. We're getting very close to a first closed beta testing stage.

Editing

Good news for all the creative people around is that it will be very easy to port any custom work from ARMA to ARMA 2, much easier than from Operation Flashpoint.

Some of the editing tools (Oxygen 2 + Visitor 3) are already released as release candidates, some other are getting close to release - we intend to release the entire pipeline (including data packing and addon signing tools) very soon and to make a final polished release of the entire tool suite in the next few weeks.

No.12  4Gb working fine on XP home for me
Beta Patch 109 working great on XP Home here, and I have 4gigs of ram...however, I just did a clean install of XP on this new machine, and the first and only drivers were Nvidia's "BETA 169.28" dated January 10/08 and Creative's latest Beta driver which has a "4GB fix" for the X-Fi cards (hinting at a problem with 4GB on at least some creative cards). I've tested at 1440x900 with very high settings and so far, so very very good, muhaha (I'll wait and see how it acts in a major firefight before passing final judgement though).

Motherboard: Asus P4N32-E SLI
CPU: Intel Core 2 Quad 2.4GHz
Ram: 4Gigs Corsair DDR2 800 (4,4,4,12)
Video: Two "BFG 8800 GT OC 512Mb" cards in SLI mode
Sound: Creative X-Fi Extreme Gamer
Hard drive: 500Gb SATA
Case/PSU: Antec Nine-Hundred "Ultimate Gamer Case"/Antec TruePower Quattro 1000 Watt

 No.11  No problems for me
I have a Core 2 Quad with an nVidia 8800GTS and 4GB Corsair. I have Windows XP Pro and Windows Vista installed on the same PC. So far, I didn't face any problem with Windows XP Pro.

 No.10  ;s
I don't have 4GB so I can't feel te problem. I have 1GB ram with Vista 64bit, nvidia GF7300, CPU 2,8. (I know it suck)
I play arma on minimal details with 1200 dist and 1024x760~ resolution.
(If I lamed myself just ignore me)

I always thought about enterable buildings and close formations for infantry in which everyone cover everyone's @$$. Is it possible?

 No.8  Re: 4gb + High Memory
I have a 64-bit windows vista machine with 4gb ram and an 8800 series nvidia card. Arma will ONLY run when i take out 2gbs of ram.... this sort of beggars belief that the UPPER limit is not specified as a system requirement. BI - what gives? Can't find anything on the net to explain how to do the work arounds - any clues Sickboy?

 No.7  HDR! FIX NOW.
And what about fixing the HDR? It is so overreacting, it looks like noon when it's day, IF you don't look at your feet.

At least I'd like to enjoy something else but feet in the game I bought.

Looking forward to the DX10 fog fix. Would like to see more AI fixes though, hopefully this will improve it slightly.

You can run ArmA on Vista 64 with 4GB ram due to workarounds, check the BIKI for ArmA:_Troubleshooting_Vista

 No.4  4GB + High Memory
I just have to say that your accuse on nvidia is completely false. It does happen with ATI cards too. It is just a coding bug in ArmA engine, which prevents the game for launching correctly with memory over 3GB. The fact, that every other game out there seems to work nice and dandy with 4GB supports this engine bug. It is quite frustrating, that people who buy a new PC will also buy Vista for future proof use, cannot play Armed Assault because of the 4GB memory which is today's standard,
